Anonymous asked: Is the math in nursing school really difficult? I'm honestly terrible at it... I've been going to tutoring for a year but it still isn't my strong suit. I'm worried that it will prevent me from doing well when I go to school :/

No it’s not that hard. I was horrible at math in High school. My teacher in my senior year told me to not even bother taking the final because I would fail horribly.

A lot of the math I do right now is cross multiplying and solving for x. The good thing about colleges is that most have tutoring centers where you can go and have someone either a professor or a student explain it to you. Sometimes having a student is better because they can dumb it down a bit for me lol. Overall the math isn’t bad, once you get the hang of it and practice it a bunch of times, you get it down.

I don’t think it will prevent you from doing well in school. In my nursing program I’m only required to do one math class (which I have decided to take over summer at a community college so it won’t effect my GPA) and a few math chapters in my nursing classes. Heres an example from my textbook

A client is to receive 1.25mg of a medication. The tablets available are 0.625mg. How many tablets to you need?

This is basically a solve for x problem.

1.25mg/Xtab = 0.625mg/1tab

cross multiply.

1.25mg/tab = 0.625Xmg/tab

divide 0.625 by 1.25

and X = 2 Tablets :)

Hope this helps! The math textbook I use btw is Calculate with Confidence by Deborah Gray Morris 5th Edition
