Clinical Day: 5
Today was probably my favorite day so far. We were assigned patients last night and we picked up our patient information. I did a Care Plan with the diagnosis being Fall Risk. I was up until 1ish last night finishing it all up and this morning I was in the hospital by 6:45. I immediately went to go check on my patient and asses her vital signs. She was a very lovely elderly woman with dementia. When I checked on her at first she kept asking me what Church we were in because she told me she just received communion from 2 women. I didn’t want to frighten her by telling her she was in a hospital so I played along for a little while I took her vitals. She soon became more oriented and apologized for being confused. We talked for awhile and she told me about her family and said she was very forgetful at times. She noticed the school I attended was printed on my scrubs so she became very excited because her daughter attended the same school. As we talked I had another student assist me in moving her to the chair so we could wash her up and change her sheets. She had a hard time walking but was able to manage. As soon as I finished changing her bed she told me she said a prayer for me and told me someone was watching over me. She then thanked me repeatedly and began to read.
For the rest of the day we did rounds on patients. I did accu checks for the floor and a nurse allowed me to give my FIRST injection! It was insulin, and I gave it to a very sleepy woman who barely even took notice of me. I injected it into her abdomen, and she told me that she didn’t even feel it. That was probably the most exciting part of my day lol.
Hope everyone else is surviving! Only 3 more months until Summer Vacation Everyone!!!! :)
